Bernard F. “Bernie” Quinney
HAVERHILL: Bernard F. “Bernie” Quinney, 82, died Saturday
morning at Penacook Place. Mr. Quinney was the husband of Dorothy J. “Dottie”
(Franklin) Quinney. Born in Haverhill he was the son of the late H. Charlton
and Bernice F. (Hutchinson) Quinney.
Following his graduation from Haverhill High School class of 1944 he joined
the U.S. Army and served with the 307th Infantry Regiment 77 Div. His
awards included the Asiatic-Pacific ribbon with 1 battle star received
for action in Okinawa where he earned his Combat Infantry Badge. He continued
his service during the US occupation of Japan where he earned his wings
as a parachutist with the 11th Airborne. Upon discharge he joined A&P
Supermarket where he worked for 30 years until the company closed the
Haverhill store. Bernie retired in 1993 from the Haverhill Public Library
where he worked as custodian for eleven years.
A former member of the First Baptist Church he served as a Sunday School
teacher for 35 years, Word of Life Clubs for four years, a Deacon for
a number of years, Director of the Bus Ministry, and member of the Senior
and Men’s Choirs. He had a great passion for teen ministry, the
Bible, and especially with the prophecy and second coming of Christ. Bernie
then joined Marsh Corner Community Church in Methuen here he was a regular
ttendee of most of the worship and prayer meetings for the past 17 years.
He was a member of the Senior Saints citizen’s group. Bernie was
an avid New England sports fan, and lifetime airplane enthusiast.
Beside his wife of 58 years he is survived by his sons Kenneth F. of Plaistow,
Donald C. of Forest Lake, MN, Thomas H. and his wife Becky of Plaistow,
Jon M. of Haverhill; daughters Beverly and her husband Richard Yarborough
of Saco, ME, Carol Dulong of Haverhill; five grandchildren, Scott Quinney
and his wife Heather, Jennifer Quinney, Kelsey and Tyler Yarborough and
Anthony Thomas; one great grandson Matthew Quinney and several nieces
and nephews. He was the brother of the late Wendell and Mahlon Quinney.
Friends are invited to the funeral Friday 10:00 a.m. at Marsh Corner Community
Church. Calling hours Thursday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Dole, Childs &
Shaw Funeral Home, 148 Main Street, Haverhill. Interment at Linwood Cemetery.
