Eleanor G. (Kenney) Spurling
HAVERHILL: Eleanor G. (Kenney) Spurling, 82, died peacefully Monday afternoon
at Penacook Place. Mrs. Spurling was the wife of the late Forrest F. Spurling,
Jr. to whom she had been married for 53 years.
Born in Boston July 22, 1925 Mrs. Spurling was the daughter of the late
Herbert L. and Mary (Chamberlain) Kenney. Mrs. Spurling had lived in Reading
and graduated in 1943 from Reading High School. Following her marriage
she and her husband moved to Haverhill where she lived for the past 63
years. Early in her career she had worked for the telephone company and
local shoe manufacturers including 5th Avenue Shoe and Clicker City before
remaining home to raise her son. Eleanor loved caring for children, and
provided day care for working parents in her neighborhood. Following the
birth of her grandchildren she often expressed her happiest
years were those spent caring for them. She was a former member of St.
John the Baptist Church. Eleanor was an avid reader and often frequented
the Haverhill Public Library. She was fortunate to have extensively traveled
abroad with family and friends to such countries as Ireland, France and
Holland to name only a few.
She is survived by her son Atty. Dennis Spurling and his wife Susan of
Atkinson, NH; her beloved grandchildren Erin and Daniel Spurling, both
of Haverhill, and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the
late Herbert Kenney and Marie Norton.
Friends are invited to attend a celebration of Eleanor’s life at
a graveside service Friday 11:00 at Riverview
Cemetery. At the family’s request there will be no calling hours.
