Edward C. French
Edward C. French, 88, died Sunday morning at Merrimack Valley Hospital.
Mr. French was the husband of
Louise (Mitchell) French.
Born in Hartland, VT April 4, 1919, Mr. French was the son of the late
Clinton A. and Margaret (Colburn) French.
Mr. French was a graduate of Windsor High School in Vermont where he
was a member of the All State Football Team. He continued his education
at Clark Preparatory School before entering and graduating from Norwich
University. During the war he served in the Army’s Lightning Division
with the 78th Cavalry RECON Troop. He fought in Germany and in Europe
during the Battle of the Bulge where he received the Bronze
Star. Mr. French had worked thirty-five years as a manager for AT&T
before his retirement in 1981. He was transferred to Haverhill from St.
Albans, VT, and then to Springfield and Boston. He was a member of the
American Legion, Telephone Pioneers of America, and supported the VFW
Loraine Post #29.
Beside his wife of sixty-one years he is survived by his daughter Martha
Brown and her husband Craig of Bradford. He was the father of the late
Edward J. French.
Relatives and friends are invited to the funeral Wednesday 10:00 a.m.
at Dole, Childs & Shaw Funeral Home, 148 Main Street, Haverhill. Interment
at Elmwood Cemetery. Calling hours Tuesday 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Memorial
