Grace E. (Bonnell) Daly

NEWBURY, MA: Grace E. (Bonnell) Daly, 89, died Friday evening at Port Rehabilitation Center in Newburyport. Mrs. Daly was the wife of the late Clayton E. Daly.

Born in Haverhill July 4, 1918, Mrs. Daly was the daughter of the late John R. Sr. and Grace E. (Hartford) Bonnell. Mrs. Daly graduated from Haverhill High School class of 1936, and continued her education at MacIntosh Business College and Northern Essex Community College. She graduated from North Shore Baby’s Hospital in 1939.

Her career in food service spanned twenty-eight years. She was Head of Food Service at Bradford Junior College, Governor Dummer Academy and Adelynroad Retreat Center, and Food Service Manager at Lawrence Academy. Mrs. Daly was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Haverhill where she served many years as Sunday School Superintendent and Deaconess. She was a founding member of the Haverhill Garden Club and Merrimack Valley Herb Society. She was a charter member of the Plum Island Beautification Society, and served briefly as President of Plum Island Taxpayers Association. Mrs. Daly is survived by her sisters Evelyn Dreyer of Belgium, WI, Dorothy Bronchella of Haverhill; brother Kenneth Bonnell of Greenville, MS, four grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Following the death of her sister Ellen Partridge, Mrs. Daly raised her children; Florence Davis of Newcastle, DE, Wendy Cook of Plum Island, Orin Partridge of Bradford, Robert Partridge of East Hampstead, NH, and the late Dona Lee Cronk. She was the sister of the late John R. Bonnell, Jr.

Friends are invited to the funeral Wednesday 11:00 at First Presbyterian Church in Haverhill. Interment at Greenwood Cemetery. Calling hours Tuesday 4:00 – 7:00 at Dole, Childs & Shaw Funeral Home, 148 Main Street, Haverhill. Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 346 Broadway, Haverhill, MA 01832.
