Raymond E. “Yaz” Jackson
HAVERHILL: Raymond E. “Yaz” Jackson, 63, passed away peacefully
Wednesday at the Oxford Manor. He was the husband of Kathleen S. (Jones)
(Kimball) Jackson.
Born in Haverhill November 10, 1943 he was the son of the late John M.
and Doris F. (Williams) Jackson.
In his younger years Yaz worked for Skelly’s in Monument Square,
and the Haverhill Police Department Garage before retiring in 2000 from
the City of Haverhill’s Waste Water Department where he worked as
a mechanic for 28 years, He was active on the Miller’s Drag Racing
Team in the 60’s and 70’s, having been photographed by The
Wide World of Sport’s with the team. Yaz loved to follow NASCAR
traveling to many of ISC’s race tracks. He also enjoyed classics
cars. Yaz, for many years, drove school buses for the VFW Shoe Makers
Drum & Bugle Corp of the VFW Post #29 taking the band members to their
competitions. He was an active committee member of the Langlois Associates
of Smith’s Tavern, the Bradford Athletic Social Club, the Crescent
Yacht Club, the Eagles Post 4401 Dayton Beach, FL, an active participant
of The American Legion of Dayton Beach, FL, an honorary member of the
Lorraine Post VFW of Haverhill where he also served as committee member
for the annual VFW Santa Parade for 34 years. Although he was no longer
able to participate due to his illness he always had a parade in his heart.
He was an avid fan of the WWE Wrestling. Before returning to Haverhill
in 2006 Yaz resided in Port Orange, FL where his filled his time working
the Daytona International Speedway and Dayton Ocean Center as a Security
Officer. Much of his time was spent doing what he most enjoyed –
walking the beach with his wife.
Beside his wife he is survived by his brother Robert Jackson and his wife
Gayle of Methuen, MA; sisters Elaine Chadborne of Saco, ME, Anita Latori
and her husband Joseph of Tamarack, FL; step-children Stacy (Kimball)
Sullivan of Riverdale, FL, Melissa (Kimball) Clark and her husband Lorin
of Haverhill; grandchildren Lexi Antonakis, Olivia and Haliegh Sullivan,
and several nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to attend a memorial service Monday 2:00 at Dole,
Childs & Shaw Funeral Home, 148 Main Street, Haverhill. Interment
at Elmwood Cemetery. Calling hours will precede the service from 11:00
a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Merrimack Valley
